There took place a discussion on "Opportunities of using biodegradable bags in Armenia" at the Ministry of Environment with the participation of Deputy Minister Anna Mazmanyan and stakeholders

The officers  of companies producing plastic bags, biodegradable bags or companies producing or importing biodegradable raw materials, as well as shops or supermarkets took part in the discussion.
Plastic bags are one of the main elements of environmental pollution and the problem requires a primary solution. Discussed the issues regarding the reduction and prohibition of the use of plastic bags.
Note that, the use of plastic bags will be banned from January 1, 2022.
According to the law on “Trade and Services”, from January 1, 2022, the sale of plastic bags up to 50 microns thick will be prohibited, as well as their free provision:
in trade facilities,
in trade places,
in mobile trade outlets,
 at retail outlets,
as well as in the case of outdoor trade.
The ban does not apply to:
bags envisaged for weighing,
bags made from secondary raw materials.
