In the Ministry of Environment, a discussion of the development project of the road map of the national vision of Sevan took place

In the Ministry of Environment, a discussion of the road map development project for the national vision of Sevan, implemented within the framework of the "EU4Sevan" program, took place.
Karen Mnatsakanyan, Acting Director of "Sevan" National Park, and representatives of the Ministry's professional divisions and interested departments participated in the discussion.
Lake Sevan has great environmental, historical, cultural and economic value for Armenia, as it is an important ecosystem, as well as a source of drinking and irrigation water and hydroelectricity production. It also plays an important role in the organization of recreation for the population of Armenia.  At the same time, water quality has significantly deteriorated as a result of intensive and unsustainable use in recent decades.
Restoring and maintaining the ecological balance of the lake, as well as its protection and sustainable use, are important priorities for the RA government in the fields of climate and environment.
The Government of Armenia recognizes the importance of restoring the Lake Sevan ecosystem and has been investing for more than two decades in developing an institutional and legislative framework for this purpose, as well as developing an action plan.
A report on the three preliminary scenarios of the national vision of Lake Sevan and the conducted studies was presented to the discussion.
The presented report was prepared by "Adwise Business and Legal Consulting" LLC within the framework of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) component of the EU4Sevan project, which is implemented jointly with the Ministry of Environment.
The task of the company is the implementation of the road map for the development of the long-term national vision of Lake Sevan and the presented report is the second result of the task, according to which it is intended to present the values underlying the development of the vision, 3-4 possible and relevant scenarios, as well as the stakeholders related to future benefits and losses.  the expectations of the parties and the perceived threats of the latter.
The EU4Sevan project, which is part of the EU for Energy Efficiency and the Environment and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) project "Management of natural resources for sustainable rural development in the South Caucasus and protection of ecosystem services (ECOserve)", aims to improve Sevan  environmental protection of the lake.
The project is implemented by the German Cooperation (GIZ) and UNDP, where the objective of the component implemented by the latter is to continue the improvement of the general management system governing the management and sustainable use of the Lake Sevan ecosystem.  Improving water and lake area management is a key prerequisite for effective management and monitoring of the water basin, so in order to minimize further deterioration of ecosystems and develop sustainable lifestyle opportunities for communities, the program will seek as a basis for ensuring the harmony of effective landscape planning and management of the Sevan Basin and sectoral development processes.  apply the ecosystem approach.
The project supports the formulation of a new long-term vision for Lake Sevan, the appropriate updating of the policies and regulatory framework for the management of Lake Sevan to take into account the changes and dynamics of the last 20 years, as well as to include additional factors such as the vulnerability of ecosystems to climate change.
During the meeting, it was established that cooperation with various stakeholders will be organized for the purpose of joint management of different interests and usage patterns related to Lake Sevan, thus balancing various current economic and social needs with long-term goals of nature conservation.
