Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meimaryan participated in the meeting of the Steering Committee of the GEF regional program "Modernization of global forest monitoring in the Caucasus region”

Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meymaryan took part in the meeting of the Steering Committee of the GEUA regional program "Modernization of global forest monitoring in the Caucasus region", organized by the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center in Tbilisi, where regional and national components of the program were discussed, the results of cooperation between the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia and the Caucasian TBC, "interactive atlas of forests and lands of Armenia".
The Deputy Minister made an introductory speech.
Aram Meymaryan thanked the organizers for creating such an important platform and spoke about climate change, conservation of forests and biodiversity and accurate cartography, noting the importance of implementing a joint program and the Ministry of the Caucasus in terms of implementing 10 million tree plantings.
"The Republic of Armenia is a mountainous, climatically vulnerable country with a small forest cover. Nevertheless, the Republic of Armenia also has the opportunity, thanks to its forests, to reduce the risks of such disasters and, for this reason, efforts aimed at preventing the degradation of forests and lands, The availability of GIS monitoring and mapping data for the implementation of appropriate actions in the field of forestry and land degradation is extremely important for us," the Deputy Minister noted and touched upon the program "Modernization of global forest monitoring in the Caucasus region". The parties discussed the possibility of continuing the program.
In his speech, the Deputy Minister also touched upon the problems aimed at increasing forest areas, as well as the obligations of our country.
