Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meymaryan took part in the launch meeting on the process of reviewing the analytical and technological/cartographic possibilities of using the online Atlas of Forests and Land use, organized by the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center Foundation for the Ministry, forest management and monitoring specialists, public organizations and expert staff.
Welcoming the organizers and participants of the course, the Deputy Minister touched upon the problems aimed at improving the efficiency of forest management․
The program "Modernization of Global Forest Monitoring in the Caucasus region", within the framework of which this course is organized, aims to make available to decision makers and civil society technologies and tools for collecting information that will help reduce deforestation, will contribute to the conservation and reproduction of forest biodiversity, developing innovative approaches for users, facilitating presentation of information and analysis, and also to ensure effective forest management and biodiversity conservation by providing more reliable information in order to facilitate the work on sustainable land use management and restoration, planning and implementation of forest landscapes:
I think this is part of a chain of targeted actions that we are going to preserve our forest resources," the Deputy Minister said.
During the training course, a number of important issues were discussed, such as the inclusion of advanced analytical data for the practical application of the Atlas, additional opportunities related to climate change, monitoring of biodiversity.
The participants learned how to use the new possibilities of using the GIS tools and comparing Atlas data.
The courses will be of a long duration.
