Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meymaryan meets with Representatives of the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida)

Let us remind that "Stockholm +50. The Deputy Minister is in the Kingdom of Sweden (Stockholm) to participate in the international event entitled "A Healthy Planet for the Prosperity of All, Our Responsibility, Our Opportunity".
Under Sida International Development and Eastern Europe and Europe & Latin America Thematic Assistance Officer Christina Danielson Senior Program Coordinator for Latin America Europe Ian Johansson discusses possible scope and directions of cooperation with Sida, plans to be implemented and Armenian - Prospects for Swedish cooperation in the field of environment.
The Deputy Minister thanked Sida for its continued support, in particular with reference to the "Strengthening Community Resilience through Energy Efficiency through Low Emissions Development" program (budget: $ 1.1 million), under which investments in energy-efficient, renewable energy are particularly vulnerable for and are crucial for green recovery.
"Taking into account Armenia's ambitious goals in the climate agenda under the investments defined at the national level, the Ministry of Environment highly appreciates Sida's support to Armenia in that sphere," the Deputy Minister noted.
 There is a great potential for cooperation between Armenia and Sweden in the forest sector, taking into account the fact that this sector is of mutual interest for both countries.
The Deputy Minister thanked Sida for its support in the process of drafting forest legislation in 2004 expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation in the field of forests and biodiversity.
During their visit to Armenia in June, Sida representatives plan to visit Syunik region to study the opportunities provided by forests.
Reference was made to the field of solid waste management.
Under the CEPA Agreement (Armenia-EU: Comprehensive Extended Partnership Agreement), Armenia is committed to improving its waste management system, in particular to introducing an EPR (Extended Producer) system in Armenia.
Aram Meymaryan thanked for the financing of the project in the field of waste management, which will be implemented by the American University of Armenia. A tripartite memorandum will be signed soon between the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Territorial Administration, the Ministry of Infrastructure, and the American University of Armenia.
 The draft Memorandum of Understanding on Environmental Cooperation between the RA Ministry of Environment and the Swedish Ministry of Environment, which was agreed with the interested departments, was submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for transfer to the Swedish side.
 The parties also discussed the measures taken within the framework of the EU4Sevan project related to Lake Sevan, in particular, the need to implement projects with the communities, the establishment of new wastewater treatment plants, and the modernization of existing plants.
The Swedish side informed that it is interested in building cooperation around Lake Sevan, especially in the direction of establishing a sewage treatment concept and stations.
An agreement was reached to make a road map and move forward accordingly.
 Within the framework of his visit to Stockholm, Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan took part in a reception organized by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, which was also attended by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
A wide range of issues related to the environment were discussed during the reception.
