Message of Environment Minister Hakob Simidyan on the occasion of World Environment Day

"Fight against plastic pollution": under this motto, World Environment Day is celebrated today
The Day is celebrated annually and is a means for all environmentalists and environmental organizations to focus the attention of the international community on environmental issues, as well as to stimulate political interest in appropriate actions to protect the environment.
Dear colleagues, dear representatives of the ecological community, I congratulate all of us on the Day of the Environment and the ecologist. This is the day when we have to think about how we can take better care of the environment.
On this day, I want to emphasize the role and importance of the work done by each of you in a rapidly changing world full of environmental challenges. The key to solving the many problems we face is in the hands of all of us.
World Environment Day is a great opportunity to confirm how important the environment is and how to make it greener, cleaner and healthier, take care of nature, show responsibility for its constant transmission to future generations.
The Government of the Republic of Armenia has carried out extensive work in recent years to counter global and local environmental challenges.
At the initiative of the Ministry of the Environment, the legislative field concerning the environment has been sufficiently regulated. The Ministry's work was aimed at effective management of bioresources, conservation of forests, restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems, improving the efficiency of water resources management, revaluation of attitudes to nature, formation and strengthening of responsible behavior of our compatriots.
The results of the work carried out will not be long in coming if the idea of environmental protection should take its clear place in the value system of our society.
Once again, I congratulate all of us on our professional day and urge us to take effective steps, because the idea of preserving the environment and transferring it to future generations in its natural state is here today.
In 2023, the theme of World Environment Day was chosen as the struggle of humanity against plastic pollution and its importance.
In this context, the Government of the Republic of Armenia continues legislative reforms: a legislative initiative initiated by the Ministry of Environment proposes to introduce a ban on the use of plastic bags, bags, as well as disposable tableware made of plastic.
However, in the fight against plastic pollution, government tools alone are not enough, all regulations will give the desired result only if we change the behavior of consumers.
Within the framework of this struggle and in general in initiatives aimed at protecting the environment, we need broad public involvement and participation of every citizen at the individual level.
