Lilit Abrahamyan, Head of the Water Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment, took part in the Pan-European regional preparatory seminar

Lilit Abrahamyan, Head of the Water Policy Department of the Ministry of the Environment, National Coordinator of the EU for the Environment - Water Resources and Environmental Data program, took part in the Pan-European regional preparatory seminar on the upcoming UN World Water Forum in New York on March 22-24, 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland, from April 12 to 13.
The UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) was aimed at supporting until 2030. "Water for sustainable development" taking into account the actions carried out over the past decade in various regional areas, as well as the preparation of materials for the World Conference.
Lilit Abrahamyan made a presentation on the topic "The role of the National Policy dialogue in the water sector in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Armenia". The report notes that the main goal of the national water policy dialogue in Armenia is to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals related to water (MDGs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The main source of funding for the dialogue is the European Union, the main operational instrument is the EU Framework Directive on water resources, and the UNECE and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) are strategic partners for the implementation of the national water policy dialogue in Armenia. The successes achieved in the framework of the dialogue in the water sector of the Republic of Armenia, identified problems and expectations were also presented.
A wide range of issues related to the water sector were discussed during the seminar:

  • Ensuring accessibility and safety-drinking water and sanitation for all,
  • Solving the problems of water pollution, ecosystem conservation and biodiversity policy and circular economy,
  • Strengthening water resources management at the national and transboundary levels,
  • Strengthening climate adaptation, reducing the risk of floods and droughts and strengthening cooperation between water use sectors,
  • Increasing knowledge about groundwater, improving management-groundwater and its protection,
  • Accounting for progress through partnerships, funding, data - research and innovation.
