Since 2004, the first Sunday of April has been celebrated as a geologist's professional holiday, Geologist's Day, which symbolizes the beginning of geological expeditions and fieldwork. (Decision of the RA Government No. 936 of June 3, 2004).
Deputy Minister Tigran Gabrielyan made a welcome speech. Congratulating geologists and representatives of the field of geology, the deputy minister referred to the importance of the field.
"Geology is not only a science, but also the main and key tool for the study and development of the environment. Geology allows us to see the history of the Earth and appreciate its geological processes that have a huge impact on our lives and the environment. Geologists work to make the world a safer and more sustainable place, study underground resources, develop sustainable and efficient ways to extract and use energy, create terrain and geological maps to help avoid natural disasters and create a better environment for our lives. On this day, we should once again remember the importance of the geologist's work and how it affects the quality of our lives. Today we have to talk about the achievements of our profession and the future challenges", said Tigran Gabrielyan.
In his speech, the deputy minister also referred to the policy of the sector.
"The inestimable richness of the subsoil provided by nature allows solving many acute problems of socio-economic and recreational nature. However, in this context, it is extremely important to balance these achievements with environmental benefits.
In this sense, the effective use of subsoil and ensuring a stable policy in the field of subsoil use is a fundamentally important direction of state policy in the field of environment. On the way to ensure that balance, we have a lot to do, from the development of professional qualities to the introduction of modern technologies and effective soil management mechanisms."
