Deputy Minister of Environment of Armenia Aram Meimaryan met Stefan Dion

Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meimaryan received the Special Envoy of Canada to the European Union and Europe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany Stefan Dion.
Greeting Mr. Dion to the Ministry of Environment, the Deputy Minister expressed gratitude for the initiative of the meeting and stressed the importance of building close sectoral cooperation.
"In addition to serving the agenda of diplomatic and interstate relations between our countries, we are ready to expand broad cooperation also in the field of environmental management and cooperate in such important areas as combating climate change, protecting forests and specially protected natural territories, reasonable management of water resources in the Republic, exchange of experience in technical possibilities of cleaning rivers and lakes Sevan, etc.," the Deputy Minister said.
The parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the direction of long-term priorities.
Deputy Minister Aram Meimaryan presented to his colleagues the environmental reforms that have started and are in the process of being implemented and highlighted the problems in the direction of solving which Armenia can count on support and exchange of experience.
In particular, comprehensive programs for improving the ecosystem of Lake Sevan were touched upon, including the possibility of cleaning rivers and wastewater flowing into the lake, including the possibility of implementing solutions based on nature.
Reports on the problems of Lake Sevan will be provided to colleagues for further discussions.
The possibilities of implementing joint programs on forest conservation and mitigation of anthropogenic impact on the forest were discussed.
The Deputy Minister stressed that it is desirable to exchange experience around management tools for specially protected natural territories.
The sides also touched upon the steps taken by Armenia in the climate agenda to confront global environmental challenges.
