Deputy Minister of the Environment Anna Mazmanyan visited the “Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center “ SNCO and met with the senior staff and heads of departments of the SNCO.
Deputy Minister Anna Mazmanyan, in her welcoming speech, noted the importance of the role and importance of SNCOs in environmental protection, sustainable development of the state and the economy, stressed the importance of providing data, forecasts and services based on the results of monitoring hydrometeorology and the environment in the relevant strategically important areas for the country.
Levon Azizyan, Acting Director of the “Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center” SNCO presented the results of the activities of 2021, the main achievements and existing problems.
The issues of monitoring forests and biodiversity using new information technologies and programs, collecting information, improving the forecasting system were discussed.
It was noted that there are many problems, starting with the placement of units in the same building at different administrative addresses, the quality of meteorological, hydrological atmospheric air and technical modernization of controlled waters, continuous re-equipment and accreditation of the laboratory.
Current programs were discussed, as well as prospects for the development and implementation of joint programs with international organizations, emphasizing the importance of establishing and developing cooperation in the field of scientific and technical cooperation and capacity development, involvement in various grant programs, including those of the Green Climate Fund, the Global Environment Facility and others.
It was noted the importance of large-scale training of the staff of "HMC" SNCO (managers, engineering and technical staff), retraining of personnel, exchange of experience, sending young promising specialists to foreign universities, academies and colleges.
Anna Mazmanyan gave a number of instructions and presented proposals for solving problems aimed at the development of the system.
