Deputy Minister of Environment Anna Mazmanyan met with representatives of the UN World Food Program

The Armenian delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Environment Anna Mazmanyan met the Assistant Executive Director of the UN World Food Program for Cooperation Ms. Ute Klamert, Chief of Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction Programs Mr. Laganda and Program Manager Ms. Pergolini, within the framework of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change in Glasgow #COP26.
The parties discussed the priorities of the sphere and the scope of possible cooperation.
The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the Armenian office of the UN World Food Program for the work on the implementation of programs related to food security in Armenia and noted the importance of expanding the scope of activities.
Anna Mazmanyan spoke about a major project implemented in the country with the assistance of KfW, one of the components of which is to change behavior in communities adjacent to specially protected areas. It is carried out in the communities of the Syunik region.
The Deputy Minister spoke about decisions and steps on climate change, referring to the Council of interdepartmental coordination of the implementation of the requirements and provisions of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
Anna Mazmanyan also presented the Ministry's programs for restoring the ecosystem of Lake Sevan.
Programs implemented in cooperation with the Green Climate Fund and Global Environmental Fund were discussed at the meeting.
Anna Mazmanyan noted the importance of investments made for adaptation and resilience to climate change.
At the end of the meeting, the parties welcomed the idea of such bilateral meetings and agreed to continue consultations and exchange of information in the interests of developing a jointly implemented program in accordance with the needs and priorities of the country.
