Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan met the delegation led by Ruslan Edelgeriev, adviser to the president of the Russian Federation, special representative of the president on climate issues.
Welcoming the partners, the minister highly appreciated the Armenian-Russian relations in the field of the environment and stated that there is a great potential for developing sectoral cooperation, which should be effectively realized thanks to bilateral efforts.
Mr. Ruslan Edelgeriev also stated that there are wider opportunities for sectoral cooperation, which should be used, giving new impetus to cooperation in the field of environment.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues of bilateral interest.
In particular, reference was made to the steps taken by the RA Government in the direction of climate change mitigation, the problems in the water sector and the challenges caused by climate factors, the problem of desertification and land degradation, as well as the 28th and 29th sessions of the Parties.
The issue of continuing negotiations and work on the "Debt for Climate" mechanism was also discussed.
The parties agreed to take necessary effective steps to strengthen bilateral friendly relations and cooperation, especially considering the priority of the climate agenda for both countries.
