A new whitefish extraction program is under development

Today, a discussion meeting was held headed by the Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan and Deputy Minister Aram Meimaryan to discuss the program and the possibilities of introducing a new approach to whitefish fishing in Lake Sevan.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Sevan National Park, the Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the Gegharkunik Regional Administration and the heads of the coastal communities of Lake Sevan.
Minister Hakob Simidyan noted that in the issue of resolving this problem, we are dealing with both an environmental and a social problem, in accordance with this, the program being implemented by the proposed solutions should contribute to the sustainable use and restoration of the life cycle in the lake, as well as create such conditions for fishermen in practical and legal terms, in which the whitefish coat of arms and illegal hunting will be excluded.
Deputy Minister Aram Meimaryan presented the approaches that will form the basis of the new program of regulation of commercial fishing.
"Our goal is to work together with citizens engaged in fishing from settlements nearby Lake Sevan and specialists in the field to develop a strategy that will allow to regulate legal relations between the state and citizens engaged in fishing and strengthen control over illegal hunting," the Deputy minister said.
After listening to all the comments and suggestions, Minister Hakob Simidyan said that meetings on the development of the program will be continued, the opinions of interested parties will be taken into account and as a result, such a comprehensive model will be created, with the implementation of which the desired result will be achieved in this area of vital importance.
