A conference organized within the framework of the UN Convention on Biodiversity was held in Geneva, Switzerland

On March 12-31, 2022, the Swiss Confederation in Geneva hosted a conference organized within the framework of the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity, dedicated to the development of a preliminary document for a new global biodiversity strategy. The forum was attended by representatives of about 150 countries.
Levon Aghasyan, Legal Adviser of the Ministry of Environment, and Voskeat Grigoryan, Head of the Department of Specially Protected Natural Territories and Biodiversity Policy of the Ministry of Environment, visited the forum from the Republic of Armenia.
During the conference, the objectives and priority actions of the preliminary document of the new global biodiversity strategy until 2030, new biodiversity goals, issues related to illegal wildlife trade were discussed. A new vision of biodiversity conservation until 2050 - "living in harmony with nature" - was also discussed.
As a target of key importance for the conservation of biodiversity, the features of the landscape and biodiversity of the specially protected natural territories of Armenia, as well as bringing the area to 30% of the country's territory and issues related to the problems of a new approach were presented.
A new global strategy for global biodiversity under the Convention on Biodiversity should be approved in 2022. Armenia continues to take an active part in these works and discussions.
