“We share the vision of the best future of our country:” Acting Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan met with investors in tourism sector

Guided by the recent developments in the mining sector in Lori region, a number of tourism investors were willingly to meet to consider the problems arising from the mining industry and their possible impact on investments in the region.
As during the solemn opening ceremony of the Lithuanian forest in Lori region on April 27, in a conversation with the environmental activists, the Acting Minister promised to invite them to a meeting.
Investors in tourism sector in Lori region took part in the meeting.
For any democratic state, the issues of the rule of law, the protection of the rule of law and the rights of citizens, the protection of the legitimate interests are primary. If there is an issue regarding nature protection,  the environment, and  it relates to a layer of the society, certainly,  it is in the spotlight of the Ministry of Environment, we, as a policy-making agency, are obliged to listen and hold discussions. It is in this context that Acting Minister of Environment, Romanos Petrosyan, emphasizes the role of honest citizens who are really concerned about environmental issues and their motives.
The Acting Minister listened to the concerns of those present, discussed what can be done to balance the interests of entrepreneurs, the community concerned with environmental protection, and to ensure the environmental stability of Lori region.
They dwelt on  the legislative gaps streamlining the sphere and the deep legislative reforms launched by the Ministry of Environment since the appointment of the acting Minister Petrosyan.
Presently, a new draft EIA law is being developed, amendments are being made to forest, water and land codes, the process of allocating land plots of specially protected areas of nature on the right of lease (or) construction is being regulated.
The Acting Minister assured that no political decision is made in the  mining sector in the Republic of Armenia today. The political policy adopted by the RA authorities is definitely and inviolable. It is absolutely unacceptable in any manifestation of illegality.
"As a representative of the political team, the head of the policy-developing agency of environmental management and protection, I will be consistent in strengthening the rule of law and addressing environmental bottlenecks  for the benefit of the citizen within the framework of the functions assigned to me by the RA legislation," the Acting Minister said.
Acting Minister Romanos Petrosyan asked tourism investors in Lori region to continue developing their investment projects , to clearly record the problems of the mining sector in the region, to develop proposals for their solution in the short-, medium- and long-term perspectives.
