Today Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan held a working meeting with the delegation headed by the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Armenia Raymond Eley

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Anna Mazmanyan, Head of the International Cooperation Department Ruzanna Grigoryan and Director of the Environmental Projects Implementation Unit Armen Yesoyan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues related to various areas of cooperation.
In particular, the program " Forest Resilience of Armenia, Enhancing. Adaptation and Rural Green Growth via Mitigation " was touched upon, the starting seminar of which is scheduled for April 4, 2022.
The program aims to expand the forest cover of about 5,700 hectares (2% of the total forest cover and 24% of the target per month), ensuring sustainable forest management of at least 135,800 hectares of forests and increasing the carbon absorption capacity of at least 18.8 metric tons of carbon (20 years) and reducing emissions of 200,000 tons of carbon (20 years).
The target territories were selected in the north of Armenia, the Lori region and the Syunik region in the south, based on the type of forests, population density and poverty level, the degree of their impact on climate change, as well as the impact on important forest ecosystems. Through investments and the development of opportunities in the agro-industrial complex, the program will make efforts to expand forest areas and reduce the amount of carbon, reducing the demand for firewood, promoting reforestation and planting, and finally, introducing sustainable and climate-adapted forest management methods:
Minister Hakob Simonyan expressed readiness to contribute to the effective implementation of the program as much as possible, stressing that cooperation programs aimed at environmental development and sustainable management are extremely important for Armenia.
The Minister stressed the importance of harmonizing jointly implemented programs and promoting a common agenda.
During the meeting, a number of current issues related to jointly implemented and planned programs were discussed.
During the warm and direct conversation, the sides noted the importance of consistent development and expansion of relations in an atmosphere of mutual trust through more effective use of the existing potential.
