In a bid to streamline the sustainable use of biosphere reserves  in Lake Sevan and the socio-economic problems of the area, a pilot project of industrial fishing at Lake Sevan was launched in 2020.
In 2020, 255 contracts to do  fishing of  about 236 tons of whitefish were signed between the Ministry of Environment and fishers.
Defined December 1 2020 for the deadline of the signed contracts. 
 "Sevan" NP SNCO furnished 25 points of entry to and exit from Lake Sevan, since entry and exit  was made from 19 points. The staff of the Division for Scientific Research, Monitoring, Cadastre Management supervised monitoring of industrial fishing, data collection and summarizing activities.
Approximately  204 tons of whitefish were caught in the mentioned period.
Analyzing the process of pilot whitefishing for industrial purposes, which embarked on in 2020, highlighting its target, the Ministry of Environment envisages to implement the second stage of pilot fishing in 2021. The basis for this was the data on the inventory of biosphere reserves at Lake Sevan in 2020 and the results of discussions with the Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the 2020 census data of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the total mass of whitefish in Lake Sevan comprised 2345 tons, of which the total industrial stock was about 586.2 tons; a maximum amount  of 250 tons was defined for 2021 use in the second stage of pilot whitefishing.
According to the draft:
The weight of the fish should not be less than 400 grams, fishing  should be done with fishing net cages of  40 mm and more, 
At least 500m from the shore to exclude catching fish frey, fishing will be performed by September 1,
A strict control regime will be established in December-January to ensure the spawning period  of fish.
 The entry and exit of fishing means will be executed  from designated districts,
Fishing  will be organized according to the time schedule approved by the authorized body, the inspector supervising the entry and exit points will fill out the data on the swimming means that entered the lake on that day and about the fishers in the relevant register; the time of the entry and exit, the fishing appliances,  the amount of caught fish will be registered after completing fishing.
