The law "On mercury" came into force on April 22

This regulates the relations related to the use of mercury, mercury compounds and products with mercury additives in the Republic of Armenia. The purpose of the law is to protect human health and the environment from anthropogenic emissions and excretions of mercury and mercury compounds:
The need to develop a draft law follows from the obligations assumed by the Republic of Armenia under the Minamata Convention "On Mercury", ratified in 2017. Its goal is to preserve human health and the environment from anthropogenic effects of mercury and mercury compounds.
In compliance with the obligations under the Convention, countries that have ratified the Convention after 2020, in accordance with article 4 of the Convention, prohibit the production, import and export of products with mercury additives listed in the Convention.
With the entry into force of the law, the production of products with the addition of mercury provided for in this part is prohibited,
Batteries, with the exception of silver button batteries, in which the mercury content is less than 2 percent, and air-button batteries, in which the mercury content is less than 2 percent.
Switches and relays, with the exception of high-precision capacitor bridges and loss measurement bridges, high-frequency switches and relays of control devices and regulators, in which the maximum mercury content is 20 mg per bridge, switch or relay.
Small fluorescent lamps for general lighting with a power of 30 watts or less, in which the mercury content exceeds 5 mg per lamp burner.
Fluorescent lamps in the form of a tube for general lighting.
a. with a tricolor phosphor with a power of up to 60 W and a mercury content above 5 mg in the lamp,
b. with a halophosphate phosphor with a power of 40 W or less and a mercury content of more than 10 mg in the lamp.
High-pressure mercury lamps for general lighting
Cold cathode fluorescent lamps and fluorescent lamps with an external electrode for electronic displays:
a. short (up to 500 millimeters inclusive), in which the mercury content exceeds 3.5 mg per flask,
b. medium (from 500 millimeters to 1,500 millimeters inclusive), in which the mercury content exceeds 5 mg per flask,
c. long (more than 1,500 millimeters), in which the mercury content exceeds 13 mg per flask.
Cosmetics in which the mercury content exceeds 1 part / million, including skin-lightening soaps and creams, with the exception of cosmetics around the eyes, where mercury is used as a preservative and for which effective and safe preservatives are not available. Pesticides, biocides and local antiseptics.
Non-electronic following measuring equipment:
- barometers,
- hygrometers,
- pressure gauges,
- thermometers,
