The final workshop of the project "Building Capacity in Armenia to Support the Phase-out of Mercury Additive Products" took place on November 22. The conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment, "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO, "Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment", as well as representatives of other interested departments.
The National Coordinator of the Program, the National Coordinator of the Minamata Convention "On Mercury" A. Alexandryan conveyed to the audience the Deputy Minister of Environment Mrs. A. Mazmanyan's welcoming speech.
The Acting Director of the " Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO Levon Azizyan also greeted. Azizyan noted that the program proceeds from Armenia's fulfillment of obligations under the Minamata Convention "On Mercury", which was ratified by the Republic of Armenia in 2017. The purpose of the Minamata Convention is to preserve human health and the environment from anthropogenic effects of mercury and mercury compounds. In his speech, Azizyan also noted the importance of awareness-raising activities carried out within the framework of the program and the involvement of people of different professions and age groups in them.
Ms. Alexandryan  reported  the about results of the fourth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention "On Mercury" and presented the process of implementing the obligations assumed by the Convention in our country, in particular, the development of the RA draft law "On Mercury". The participants of the seminar were presented the results of the program, the main purpose of which was to establish environmentally safe conditions for the collection, storage, packaging, transportation, reception and neutralization of mercury lamps. The representative of the "Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment" NGO Knarik Grigoryan, the Technical Consultant of the program Alexander Engoyan, and the representative of the Center for Ecological Noosphere Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia Gayane Melkonyan made reports during the workshop.
