The conflict between human and wild animals in the center of attention of the Ministry of Environment

In response to recent posts on social media and in the media about the damage done to the residents of the communities by brown bears, we report that the issue is in the center of attention of the Ministry of Environment. Work is being done to find possible solutions, studies are conducted on the prevalence and number of bears, and on the threat posed by bears.
We remind you that the brown bear (Ursus arctos) is registered in the "Red Book" of animals of the Republic of Armenia and according to the criteria of the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, it is assessed as "Vulnerable". 
According to the article 27 of the "Law on Fauna", the use of wild animals registered in the "Red Book" of animals of the Republic of Armenia, including procurement, is allowed in exceptional cases for scientific research, educational, health, as well as artificial and natural conditions for their reproduction, with the permission of the state body authorized in the field of protection, use and reproduction of wildlife, in accordance with the procedure established by the Government.
The RA Criminal Code envisages responsibility for killing a brown bear registered in the "Red Book" of animals of the Republic of Armenia: a fine in the amount of 400-600 times the minimum wage or detention for 2-3 months with compensation from 1 to 5 million drams
