The process of recovery of the Kohak fish species in Lake Sevan was discussed

A regular working meeting-discussion was held under the leadership of Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan and with the participation of interested parties within the framework of the programs of the Ministry of Environment aimed at restoring the ecosystem of Lake Sevan.
The process of recovery of the species of fish in Lake Sevan was discussed.
The meeting was attended by the heads of the professional units of the Ministry, representatives from "Sevan" National Park, the head of the Institute of Hydroecology and  Ichthyology
of the "Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology" of the National Academy of Sciences of the RA, Evelina Ghukasyan, the Head of Biology, Chemistry and Teaching Methodology of the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after K. Abovyan  head of the chair Samvel Pipoyan, general director of "Ishkhan of Sevan" CJSC Tigran Vardanyan.
During the meeting, the possible formats for the restoration of the dam in Lake Sevan were discussed.  Reference was made to the studies on the species of fish and the dynamics of hunting in recent years.
The reason for the decrease in the number of wild animals is the lack of places necessary for natural reproduction.  The Institute of Hydroecology and Fishology of the "Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology" of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, within the framework of the Caucasus biodiversity gene pool study program (CaBOI), is conducting a gene pool study from different water ecosystems of the Republic of Armenia.  Within the framework of this project, samples of the species from the ecosystem of the Hrazdan River and Lake Sevan were sent to Germany for the purpose of determining the species affiliation of the species.  The results will be known by the end of the year.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan stated once again that the restoration of the ecological balance of Lake Sevan, the normal harmonious development of the ecosystem of the lake's catchment basin and ensuring sustainable use are among the priorities of the Ministry of Environment, and all possible efforts should be made in that direction.
