A few months ago, the Ministry of Environment submitted a draft decision of the Government on the joint website for publishing draft legal acts, which proposed to include Mount Karmir Qatar (Tar) of the Gegham mountains in the list of natural monuments.
And today at the Government meeting the draft decision of the Government "On making an addition to the decision № 967-N of the Government of the Republic of Armenia of August 14, 2008" was approved.
The aim of the project is to include Tar or the most famous Karmir Qatar Volcano in the list of natural monuments,  as it is a unique expression of a monogenic volcanic nature, it has great scientific, educational and recreational significance. Located in the central watershed part of the Gegham mountains, southwest of the Azhdaak volcano, it is a slag cone with an absolute height of 3530.0 m, and at the peak it has 300 m. crater diameter, where there is a crater lake.
It mainly consists of oxidized slag, pumice. It is also of great tourist importance, it is considered a favorite place of many mountaineers and ecotourism lovers.
The adoption of the project provides an opportunity to ensure the protection and legal status of the natural monument as a specially protected area, the external aesthetic and geologically intact appearance and as a geologically valuable area.
