Minister Hakob Simidyan received the delegation led by Tatyana Molchan, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
The main goal of the UNECE is to support pan-European economic integration. It unites 56 countries of the European Union, Western and Eastern Europe, CIS, as well as North America (including the United States of America, Canada, Turkey, Israel, former Soviet states of Central Asia).
UNECE cooperates with more than 70 international professional structures and non-governmental organizations. The headquarters of the UNECE is located in Geneva, Switzerland.
Armenia has been a member of the UNECE since July 1993.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of environmental issues, from legislative reforms to increasing the efficiency of the sector's management.
The minister presented to his colleagues the legislative reforms in the water sector, specifically referring to the steps aimed at economical use of water resources.
The changes made in the RA Law "On Environmental Impact Assessment and Expertise" were also discussed.
Mrs. Tatiana Molchan referred to the environmental conventions to which the Republic of Armenia is a member. An agreement was reached to further activate the country's actions within the framework of the conventions.
At the end of the meeting, the minister proposed to consider the possibility of providing expert support within the framework of issues of mutual interest, for the purpose of which UNECE is ready to take an active part.
