The final workshop of the "Comprehensive assessment of the impact of the increase in the water level of Lake Sevan" process has been held today.
Konstantin Sokulsky, Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP in Armenia, began his speech by expressing support to the relatives and victims of the recent flood. Mr. Sokulsky also emphasized UNDP's willingness to assist the Government of the RA in assessing the flood damage within the framework of the possibility.
Mr. Sokulsky spoke about the importance of this assessment and its applicability in decision-making, and also highlighted the creation of an enabling environment through the “EU4Sevan” project for effective planning and response measures, which are essential for the restoration of Lake Sevan ecosystem.
During the event, the results of the quantitative and qualitative modeling based on the assessment of the impact of the increase in the level of Lake Sevan were presented and discussed, as well as the main conclusions regarding the impact of the increase in the water level on infrastructure, agriculture, energy, tourism, the environment, including water quality and other relevant sectors and the road map developed on them.
It was emphasized that the work performed will become the basis for making informed decisions on the effective planning and implementation of the works aimed at increasing the water level in the lake and restoring the ecological balance of Lake Sevan.
The "Comprehensive assessment of the impact of the increase in the level of Lake Sevan" process is part of the UNDP "Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan" (EU4Sevan) project and has been carried out by "CIVITTA AM" CJSC (Armenia), “JINJ” LTD (Armenia) and “SWECO” (Czech Republic) by a consortium in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures and other stakeholders.
The "Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan" (EU4Sevan) project is jointly funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is also a part of the “EU Action for Energy Efficiency and the Environment” and is part of the "ECOServe" project financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
 The project is implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
