Embarked on the new ecotourism project with special tourist routes in “Khosrov Forest” state reserve

Acting Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan, Deputy Minister Anna Mazmanyan, newly appointed Kotayk Region Governor Aharon Sahakyan, Representative Office Director-Armenia at CNF Arman Vermishyan, WWF Armenia Director Karen Manvelyan,  and  with the participation of mass media representatives,  a new ecotourism project launched in the reserve.
In a bid to ensure the sustainable development of the biodiversity of the specially protected areas of nature of Armenia, to realize the scientific potential of the sanctuary, as well as to make Armenia an eco-tourist country, to present our unique nature to the world, the Ministry of Environment has developed a project of the eco-tourism component introduction in “Khosrov Forest” state reserve.
It assumes:
9 special tourist routes in the territory of “Khosrov Forest” state reserve.
According to the routes,  reserve entry quotas, fixing of clear-cut restrictions,
Package proposals of eco-tourism services, including for tour operators interested in attracting tourists to Khosrov reserve,
Organizing and conducting trainings for the development of the eco-educational component,
Development of marketing component of specially protected areas of nature: printed materials, targeted media campaigns focused on revealing the scientific potential of the reserve,
Application of electronic payment system through EsyPay payment terminal,
Specially trained staff, eco-inspectors escort service  during trips.
To exclude  illegal entry of people to specially protected areas of nature and to make the flow controllable, the entrance to the reserve area will be paid from now on. It is possible to pay using the electronic payment system or through the terminal. Prior to entering ''Khosrov Forest” state reserve, the Acting Minister presented how a tourist should use the electronic payment system through a payment terminal to the journalists.
"It is necessary to click on the terminal window of the Ministry of Environment, after clicking on the window of " Khosrov Forest "state reserve, illustrated routes to select from, afterwards fill in the personal data: social security card, name, last name, and make the payment. In order to take tourists on these routes, tour operators shall apply for the admission to the Ministry in advance, where there are clear-cut restrictions. The funds will be entirely directed to the development of the scientific component, capacity-building of the state reserve," said the Acting Minister.
At the visitors' center of the reserve, the researchers will check the availability of the ticket, introduce the flora and fauna, find out the route, then hiking will embark on accompanied by eco-inspectors.
Also, the Acting Minister noted that in order to minimize the impact of anthropogenic factor in the area of the reserve, a restriction on the number of visitors will be applied, under the strict supervision of the Ministry of Environment.
"This policy will soon apply to all national parks, reserves and arboretums under our Ministry, where we have a specially defined regime."
A media tour was organized for the journalists on one of the routes of "Khosrov Forest" state reserve, from Garni district to Havuts Tar Monastic Complex. The trip was effected  in the left part of Azat River and the gorge having the same name.
