Deputy Environment Ministers Anna Mazmanyan and Aram Meimaryan met with the representatives of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center

Deputy Environment Ministers Anna Mazmanyan and Aram Meimaryan met the representatives of the Regional Environmental Center for Caucasus.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Forestry Committee Sergo Atanesyan, Deputy Director of the “Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center” SNCO Arman Avagyan, Acting Head of the Department of Forest Policy of the Ministry Aram Sahakyan and representatives of professional departments of the Ministry.
The Regional Environmental Center of the Caucasus presented the GEF regional program "Modernization of global forest monitoring in the Caucasus region" and the "Interactive atlas of forests and lands of Armenia" prepared within its framework.
The main goal of the program is to make available to decision makers and civil society those technologies and channels of information collection that will help reduce the volume of deforestation, will contribute to the conservation and reproduction of forest biodiversity, developing innovative approaches for users, facilitating the presentation of information and analysis.
The authors of the program noted that one of the main achievements of the atlas is the mapping of restoration opportunities, through which the area of forest restoration opportunities in Armenia will be calculated based on the best methodology created, tested and applied.
