Climate change remains a major global issue

Climate change remains the main global problem. RA President's speech at COP 28
In his speech at the 28th UN Climate Change Conference, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan stated that climate change remains the main global problem.
"In 2015, we took a historic step by adopting the Paris Agreement. However, as indicated in the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, we are far behind the benchmarks for achieving the Paris goals. There are many reasons for this, including the continued dependence of economies on fossil fuels. It is clear that we cannot continue to move forward on a path of excessive and unsustainable exploitation of hydrocarbons for energy production. It is imperative to gradually reduce the demand for fossil fuels," said the President of Armenia.
According to him, in order to realize the ambitions aimed at mitigating climate change, it is necessary to build energy systems that are more neutral in terms of carbon emissions and less dependent on fossil fuels.
"Necessary solutions are available. We need to accelerate the science and build on the positive developments of the past decade by doubling and tripling the use of renewable energy sources. For that, we need sufficient climate financing, and the cornerstone of this financing should be the "Loss and Damages" fund," said President Khachaturyan.
