Clean-up activities in the riparian zones of the rivers flowing into Lake Sevan

The clean-up works have started in the riparian zones of the rivers flowing into Lake Sevan in the framework of "Restoration of Riparian Zones in Armenia" Project in Gegharkunik region.
The Project aims at mitigating the socio-economic consequences of COVID-19 by combining environmental measures with the opportunity for people to earn temporary income. In the period of April 29 to May 3, clean-up activities were carried out in the riparian zones of Tsakkar and Lichk rivers by the residents of Tsakkar and Lichk Communities, as a result of which more than 12,000 kg of waste and 70 kg of recyclable waste was collected.
The project provides temporary employment and income to those who have suffered from the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic and at the same time contributes to the restoration of the ecosystems of Lake Sevan and the rivers flowing into Sevan.
The activities are coordinated by the RA Ministry of Environment, RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). ATP Charitable Foundation, ISSD NGO, and "Blejan" ecological, social, business support NGO are the local supporting partners of the project.
