"The rejection of applications for water use permits for newly constructed small hydropower plants envisaged on defining the list of rivers which are registered in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia or are typical of endemic fish spawning habitats or 40% and more overloaded with diversion pipes”; by the draft decree of the government, the list of rivers prohibited for the construction of small hydropower plants was defined.
To define the list of the above-mentioned rivers, the results of the recent comprehensive studies conducted by
Institute of Zoology of Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology (National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA)) and the Chair of Biology, Chemistry and Their Teaching Methods of Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan, as well as the results of the overloading of small hydropower plants on rivers submitted by the Department for Licenses, Permits and Compliances of the Ministry of Environment were compared.
The overloading has been determined from the length ratio of the diversion of small hydropower plants to the length of the river, expressed as a percentage.
