Alian Richard Donvahy, President of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification is in Armenia

The second session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on Drought (IWG on Drought) and a regional capacity building workshop are underway in Yerevan, the aim of which is to develop an effective political course within the framework of the UNCCD and take measures aimed at solving the problems caused by drought.
The President of the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Alian Richard Donvahy arrived in Armenia to participate in the workshop.
Today, Environment Minister Hakob Simidyan received the delegation led by Mr. Alia Richard Donvahy.
Welcoming his colleagues and congratulating him on his first visit to Armenia, the minister referred to the workshop of the intergovernmental working group on drought issues, highly appreciating the joint efforts to solve environmental problems.
"Desertification, as a global environmental problem, requires the application of effective measures for the preservation and efficient use of natural ecosystems, as well as targeted actions aimed at reducing the negative consequences of environmental protection. Therefore, the Republic of Armenia is strictly committed to the proper implementation of the obligations assumed by the UN Convention against Desertification," the minister noted.
The minister presented to his colleagues the steps taken by the Republic of Armenia aimed at preventing desertification and drought in the climate agenda, addressing the issues of afforestation and increasing forest areas, effective management of water resources and wise use of natural resources.
Mr. Alian Richard Donohy assessed environmental problems as not knowing borders and considered the efforts made by Armenia in this context impressive.
At the end of the meeting, the minister noted that there is still serious work to be done in the management of the sector and that Armenia attaches great importance to the exchange of international experience.
The parties agreed to continue cooperation within the framework of the convention and consider the possibilities of implementing new programs and events.
