Exhaustion

Annually the quantity of hazardous emissions to the atmosphere was 150-210 thousand t. during 2000-2008. State control has been carried out towards that emissions. 85% of emissions has standard marginal permissible norms. According to the reports 80% of detached hazardous substances are captured. A large share of hazardous substances emitted into the atmosphere comprised by sulphureous anhydride. 75-90% atmospheric emissions are from vehicles. The analysis of atmospheric pollution in the republic have been carried out by the help of observation stations located in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Hrazdan, Alaverdi, Ararat, Tsaghkadzor cities. Presence of the main polluting substances – dust, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxide, benzol, toluene, xylene, ethyl benzol, chloroprene and surface ozone, were determined. In comparison with the previous year the annual concentration of polluting substances in atmospheric air weren’t changed essentially in Gyumri. In 2008 the average annual concentration of dust in atmospheric air of Yerevan city exceeded 1.3 times, nitrogen dioxide - 1.7 times, surface ozone – 1.5 times. In comparison with the previous year the average annual concentration of dust, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide decreased. The average annual concentration of sulphur dioxide in atmospheric air of Alaverdi city exceeded MPCs 11.8 times and nitrogen dioxide 1.7 times. Though in comparison with the previous year the average annual concentration of dust in atmospheric air of Ararat, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Hrazdan cities decreased it is still exceeded the MPCs.

Emissions
The emissions of hazardous substances from the stationary sources of emission

In 2008, emissions into atmosphere comprised 206.5 thsd. t, 83.4% of which fell to share of vehicles, 16.6% - to stationary sources of emission. 65.1% of hazardous substances emitted into atmosphere was comprised by sulphureous anhydride (22.4 thsd. t), 7.8% - carbon oxide (2.7 thsd. t), 4.9% - nitric oxides (1.7 thsd. t). Total quantity of heavy metals in atmospheric emissions comprised 33.1 t. Quantity of dust emitted into atmosphere comprised 3059.6 t, 4.9% (150.6 t) of which was organic dust. In 2008 the quantity of volatile organic compounds in the total atmospheric emissions comprised 179.8 t.

The emissions of hazardous substances from vehicles
Emissions in 2008

In 2008, the quantity of hazardous substances emitted into atmosphere from vehicles comprised 172.1 thsd. t. A large share was comprised by carbon oxide 125.5 thsd. t or 72.9% of total emissions, volatile organic compounds – 30.4 thsd. t or 17.6%, nitric oxides – 15.6 thsd. t or 9.1%. The quantity of greenhouse gases emitted from vehicles into atmosphere comprised 2088.9 thsd. t (expressed equivalent to carbon dioxide), of which carbon dioxide – 1703.5 thsd. t, methane – 17.9 thsd. t (375.8 thsd. t expressed equivalent to carbon dioxide), and the quantity of nitric protoxide comprised 31 t (9.6 thsd. t expressed equivalent to carbon dioxide).
