On December 22, there took place the launching ceremony of three-year "Protection of threatened pear species and securing viability of their populations in Armenia" project.
The project is implemented by the the Armenian Society of Biologists NGO with the support of the Foundation Franklinia.
The event was attended by RA Deputy Minister of Environment Anna Mazmanyan and Director of the Institute of Botany after A. Takhkajyan of NAS RA Anahit Ghukasyan, who also said a welcoming speech.
As presented at the meeting, the objective of the project is to ensure the conservation of five globally endangered endemic pear species in their habitats in Armenia, and contribute to increase the viability of their populations. The target landscapes of the project are located within the administrative boundaries of Yeghegis, Jermuk and Zaritap communities of Vayots Dzor region.
