It will be encouraged direct cooperation between the environmental departments of two countries


Minister of Nature Protection Erik Grigoryan met with  Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia Jun Yamada.
In the course of the meeting, there were considered issues apropos of the enhanced cooperation between Armenia and Japan in the sphere of environmental protection. The parties  referred to the cooperation with a focus on automated atmospheric air monitoring in Armenia, inclusive of promotion of the general system of monitoring in the environmental protection sector, acquisition and introduction of technologies.
The parties also took the opportunity to discuss issues related to the status of cooperation between two countries within the framework of Minamata Convention on Mercury, other international conventions and procedures as well.
The Minister of Nature Protection attributed importance to the expansion of direct cooperation with Ministry of the Environment of Japan and deemed it important to take concrete steps in that direction, inclusive of  inviting his Japanese counterpart to participate in the international conference dedicated to the Year of the Caucasian Leopard.
Ambassador Jun Yamada noted that environmental protection is one of the priorities of the Government of Japan, thus expressed satisfaction that the new Government of Armenia also sets a great store on environmental protection and is keen to be instrumental in deepening the direct cooperation between two states' environmental departments.
