“Improvement of fish-farm water reuse and irrigation system of Sayat Nova village” project was implemented

It will be conducted irrigation of farmlands within 60ha with return water of “Masis-Fish” fishery owned by Samvel Harutyunyan, under the aegis of the Ministry of Nature Protection, through the joint efforts of “Advanced Science and Partnerships for Integrated Resource Development” project (ASPIRED), USAID-funded “Partnerships for Rural Prosperity” project (PRP), the Fund for Armenian Relief and the Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development National Center of Armenia. The population of Sayat-Nova comprises 2,400 people, thus direct beneficiaries: 98 households.
In the frames of the project, a new pumping station was built at the water discharge point of the fishery, installed a new more durable pipe network and provided community training on sustainable farming practices. The old drainage ditches were restored in a bid to reduce water losses and enhance the productivity of the system. The built-in system will be the property of Sayat-Nova community and the latter is committed to ensure its uninterrupted supply.
Due to the project, additional water will not be used from the groundwater horizon, saving 1,920,000 m3 water of strategic importance per annum, as well as degradation of about 60 hectares will be prevented.
