There took place the training and capacity building workshop focused on backing the management of industrial chemicals utilization (import, use, storage, transport and disposal) in Tsaghkhadzor, organized by the Secretariat for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal, and the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade.
The representatives of stakeholder agencies and non-governmental organizations were engaged in the event. The international experts presented reports on the identification of hazardous properties and risks of chemicals, risk-informed decision-making processes over their marketing, the imposition of barriers and restrictions, and the requirements / standards for sound use to the attendees.
In the course of the workshop the participants discussed legal and institutional mechanisms for chemicals and waste management, taking into consideration the corresponding thesis of the implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS), inclusive of major challenges facing.
The partakers exchanged information and experience on the existing mechanisms of the cooperation among the ministries, as well as there were outlined the spheres, where it is possible to have challenges and mechanisms to overcome them.
