As a result of liquidation, conservation and regulation works of Ararat artesian pool underground self-streaming illegal deep wells approximately 360 million m3 water has annually been saved.

Working groups set up in accordance with the order of the RA Minister of Nature Protection on liquidation, conservation and regulation works of Ararat artesian pool underground self-streaming illegal deep wells introduced the works implemented during the last 3 months.

The supervisor of the working group, the RA Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Khachik Hakobyan stated that during the period more than 200 deep wells have been examined, 12 of which have been liquidated, 49 (wells) have started being regulated by valves and 46 (wells) have been conserved (in general 107wells). They belonged to fish-breeding firms, “Hayjrmughkoyughi” CJSC and “Yerevan jur” CJSC. Due to the trimestrial works 11333 l/s water has been saved which makes up approximately 360 m3 water annually. Works will be directed to the deep wells having community significance and belonging to water using companies in the near future. The RA Ministry of Nature Protection has defined 6.4 million AMD as a penalty for the detected violations parallel to liquidation, conservation and regulation works.

At present inspections are accomplished in two fish-breeding firms and several water using companies. The RA Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Khachik Hakobyan claimed that the working group works properly regularly informing mass media about the accomplished works. Moreover, Deputy Minister informed that the RA Ministry of Nature Protection has undertaken a number of legislative innovations during the period as a result of which automatic management of deep wells will be introduced at Ararat artesian pool, Ararat water gathering management plan will be developed as well as continual observed net of pools in Armenia will be improved up to 80%.

The RA MNP Water Recourse Management Agency Director Davit Grigoryan stated that the working group works objectively and have unbiased approaches under the Minister’s order as urgent decisions should be made to make the existing situation more precise. The RA MNP Deputy Director of Staff Environmental State Department Marzpetuni Kamalyan presented the orientation of the sector the further works will be fulfilled.
