The Minister of Nature Protection received the coordinators of Public Environmental Information (Aarhus) Centers and representatives of OSCE Office in Yerevan. Welcoming the guests the Minister stressed the importance of raising public awareness on environmental issues, so that the state is able to carry out targeted and efficient policy. The Minister also welcomed the Centers' active participation in the development process of laws, which contributes to the completeness of new laws and make them serve efficiently for the people.
Tomasz Dembski, Economic and Environmental Programme Officer of OSCE Office in Yerevan expressing gratitude on behalf of OSCE leadership for accepting the meeting offer, presented the results of carried out works of 15 Aarhus Centers operating in Republic of Armenia. It was noted, that the program of Armenian Aarhus Centers was rated the best by the OSCE 57 states and representatives of a number of countries are arriving in Armenia to get acquainted with the formation and experience of activity of the Centers.
Ms. G. Ghazinyan, Environmental Programmes Officer at the OSCE Office in Yerevan, talked about their observations regarding the project submitted to the Ministry of Nature Protection of the RA on giving the centers legal-organizational form of the fund and hope that the process will enter a new phase. Affirming willingness to support the Centers, Aramayis Grigoryan proposed to organize professional discussion on the issue in the near future.
The coordinators of Aarhus Centers presented to the Minister a number of other issues related to the public awareness on the processes carrying out in the field of environment, public participation, oversight mechanisms in the field of environmental legislation and nature utilization.
Ms. G. Ghazinyan, Environmental Programmes Officer at the OSCE Office in Yerevan assured on behalf of the participants that they will welcome and support all the reforms of the sector undertaken by the Minister.
Minister Aramayis Grigoryan thanked the Centers for their implemented activities in the solution of environmental issues and their support towards Ministry’s new initiatives. The Minister said that the Ministry of Nature Protection and Public Environmental Information Centers have a same mission and attached importance to the necessity of combining the efforts and intensifying the collaboration with public organization for the solution of the issues in this field.
